Russell County Health Coalition
Thanks to everyone who helped make the Russell County Health Coalition's 9th Annual Family Health Expo on November 13 a huge success! Over 320 participants, 240 of whom were students and staff from the Russell County Public Schools after-school program, attended the Expo and received information and resources from over 33 community health providers, agencies, and organizations. Participants were also able to receive free health screenings, flu & COVID vaccinations, Narcan training, and a boxed meal, compete in a "fruit basket walk," and join in with yoga and exercise demonstrations lead by Kate Breimann and Kassidy Warren. Younger students also had Thanksgiving story time with Kelly McBride-Delph.
This event was the ninth iteration of the Coalition's Expo, aimed at engaging whole families in Russell County, especially seniors and youth, in improving access to healthcare and increasing awareness of local opportunities while having fun and connecting with friends and neighbors in our community. The Coalition is very excited to start planning for the tenth anniversary of the Expo, which will be a "Hometown Hoedown" in November 2025! Big thanks to Expo Chair Amy Compton, the planning committee & volunteers, all the vendors and community partners, and event sponsors, including Ballad Health, Anthem HealthKeepers Plus, and Crossroads Treatment Centers. Special thanks also to the Cumberland Plateau Health District, VCOM medical students in residence with Ballad Health, and local LPN students for providing vaccinations and health screenings. Thanks also to the Russell County Schools After-School program for bringing their students, Mr. Kevin Ferguson & the Russell County Conference Center for providing space, and Ms. Jill Edmonds & the Russell County Career & Technology Center Culinary Arts program for serving a delicious meal. |
